Each month you are invited to take part in lively discussion at our Kindings events. Join our studio audience as we record a fresh, thought-provoking installment of our podcast.

The Kindlings kicks-off the Fall 2010 season at a new location: The Delta Lion Pub. Located on 84th Avenue in Delta, The Delta Lion has been the local watering hole since 1977, and offers a wide selection of pub fare and draft beer to entice any palate.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., allowing time for dinner service. We begin our program promptly at 7:15. The Podcast is recorded in three 20-minute segments. Between segments, feel free to freshen your drinks and continue discussion. As always, the final segment of the podcast will be devoted to addressing questions you pose to our panel of experts.

Upcoming Events

Hipster Christianity – January 31st
In our premier Kindlings Muse Canada West broadcast of 2011, we will discuss Brett McCracken’s Hipster Christianity. Hipster Christianity, McCracken’s debut book, deconstructs evangelicalism’s quest for cool and considers the trends the church openly embraces. McCracken alleges that we are, "turning Christianity into a shape-shifting chameleon with ever-diminishing ecclesiological confidence and cultural legitimacy." In an increasingly post-modern society, how should a thoughtful Christian respond? Can church be cool? Should church be cool? Bill and our cadre of gadflies, Dr. Allyson Jule, film critic Peter T. Chattaway, and filmmaker Kevin Miller, will add their wit and wisdom to the discussion.

Faith and Film: The 2011 Oscars – February 28th
Join us in the afterglow of Tinseltown’s biggest night out – The Academy Awards. Together we will review the best (and worst) films of the year, and unpack the messages and meanings behind the Oscar nominees for best picture. Our savvy panel – film critic Peter T. Chattaway, filmmaker Kevin Miller, and sociology professor Dr. Allyson Jule – join Bill with their insights. Bring your own wit and wisdom to the discussion and don’t forget to enter our annual Oscar competition for a chance to win a pack of four movie passes!

Conscious Consumerism – March 28th
In the shadow of a strained world economy, savvy organizations are shifting from the non-profit sector into for-profit ventures. These emerging initiatives are shaking off donation dependency to create self-sustaining programs. We’ll take a look at microcredit enterprises for women in Rwanda and companies like TOMS Shoes, whose one-for-one program provides a child in the developing world with a pair of shoes whenever a pair of the shoes is purchased. Special guest Andy Harrington, Director of Greater Vancouver YFC, joins the panel. Bring your questions and insights to join the discussion.
